Question of the Week: What If There Were A Conspiracy?
Every week we ask a question of our readers, to stimulate discussion and critical thinking about an issue or topic relating to science, skepticism, technology or religion. Our favourite points are discussed on our weekly podcast, The Pseudoscientists.
Lizard people. The Illuminati. Shadowy cabals. We’ve all heard the tales. Skeptics don’t tend to believe them though — the evidence doesn’t point in their favour. I mean, there are legitimate reasons to think that planes crashing into buildings can cause those buildings to collapse, and it’s not unreasonable to think that the medical community is promoting vaccines for their community health benefits, not the fact they contain mind-control drugs. Or is it? It is.
But set all that aside, and imagine a world in which any of these grand conspiracies are correct, and governments — and indeed our daily lives — are controlled by a New World Order.
How would the world be a different place, if at all, if an evil, global conspiracy actually existed?
Would we see secret messages in the placement of airports? Mysterious figures roaming the streets? Unexplainable political assassinations? Or would the effects be a little more… subtle? Let us know in the comments!
